1/15

5 Day Average Weight: 171.1
Number of consecutive days clean eating: 14
Weight lost since 1/1: 5.5

Saw one of the winners of the show "Biggest Loser", who lost 214 pounds (went from 404 to about 195) has gained about half the weight back (he's back up to 310). Scary stuff. I'm coming to the conclusion that people like us need to behave like recovering addicts. During maintenance, you almost have to be as focused on your eating/exercising as you are during weight loss. You have to be vigilant about maintaining, you can't start to think "Hey, I'm thin, screw it" and eat whatever you want. You can certainly allow more indulgences than during weight loss, but you can never take your eye off the scale and the reprecussions of your actions.

Well put Jay. Even when we reach our goals and become thin we are not like other people. We are addicts in a sense and should learn to live as though we are in recovery. Thanks for a good blog.

I find that once you're in maintenance you have to keep it up to a certain level in general. But I also go in cycles of bad and good. I'll eat some crap here or there, then also have a few good days. No need to constantly be good, just try to be consistent about working out, not going too far overboard, and if you do, do something to make up for it. And if you find you've gained 5 lbs, go on a blitzkrieg and wipe it out.

it just never ends. we're always a few bad weeks away from being what we were before we lost all the weight.

The only normal way I've come up with to combat it is to keep weighing myself, but more important keep setting fitness related goals and hope that the training keeps the pounds off.
